On March 4 at around 1:30 a.m., a Fulton County, Georgia, police officer was shot and killed in an ambush.
The officer was responding to a call about a suspect, “possibly intoxicated,” who was “going from house to house, banging on doors, and firing a long barrel gun.”
According to the USA Today, when officers arrived to investigate, the man began firing at them. One of his shots hit an officer in the head, killing him.
Fulton County Assistant Police Chief Gary Stiles said that “officers were trying to do their job,” adding, “They were trying to protect the neighborhood from someone who was shooting. And they had no other option but to do their job. And the way it appears to me they were ambushed without warning.”
Other officers were able to shoot and apprehend the suspect. He is currently hospitalized in unknown condition.
Fulton County Police Chief Cassandra Jones said, “You can never prepare for something like this. We’re not handling it very well.”
