Harkin: ‘It’s Past Time For a Woman’ As President

Former Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), who recently endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, said, “It’s time for a woman. It’s past time, as a matter of fact, for a woman president” on Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.”

Harkin was asked whether it would be “good for the party” if Vice President Joe Biden entered the race. He answered, “Look, I’m not giving advice to anyone on this. But, as you know, Joe is also a great friend of mine, in very long standing. He has provided a great service, not only to Delaware, but to our country. And I can say that, in terms of Joe Biden, we haven’t heard the last of him, in terms of, what he can offer to the United States, in the future.”

He continued, “But, what this calls for right now is Hillary Clinton. It’s time for a woman. It’s past time, as a matter of fact, for a woman president. And we have the right combination of not only a woman, but a fighter for families and kids.” He added, “Hillary is respected around the globe. People know her around the globe. And we want to maintain America’s position as number one in the world. And with Hillary, you’ll get that.”
