Man Who Punched Senior Citizen in Metro Station Accused of Punching Transit Police Officer

A 19-year-old man who pleaded guilty last month to assaulting a senior citizen on a Metro escalator now is accused of punching a Metro Transit Police officer.

A plainclothes officer was assisting another officer with an arrest in the 700 block of 7th Street NW about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when Elijah Smith approached and said, “You will not disrespect me before my God,” then tried to talk to the officers’ prisoner, according to police.

The plainclothes officer asked Smith to move along, prompting Smith to threaten, “Next time I see you I’m going to break your f—— face,” before beginning to walk away, according to the police report.
