The Mesa, Arizona, grandmother who accidentally texted a teen boy an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner met him after she kept her promise to host him.

Wanda Dench met 17-year-old Jamal Hinton for dinner Thursday and gave him a warm welcome to her home, WXIN reported.

“He was just as nice as could be,” she said Friday on CNN’s New Day. “We got to eat food, and he told me about his plans for the future, and I am just so excited for him.”

Hinton could not stay for cleanup because of his own family’s Thanksgiving celebration, but Dench said she and her family were happy he came.

She said it is “the norm” for them to invite newcomers to their Thanksgiving celebrations.

Dench originally intended to send a text message to her own grandson, but she accidentally texted Hinton instead.

Hinton asked who it was, and she responded, “It’s your grandma.”

When he found out it was not his grandma who was texting him, he responded with a photo and asked her to save him a plate.

Dench agreed because “that’s what grandmas do … feed everyone.”

Hinton posted the response online but forgot to block out Dench’s number, leaving her with hundreds of messages from well-wishers moved by her kindness.

“The kindness that I’ve received from people sending me comments is just unbelievable,” she said.

“If you have an opportunity to do something kind for somebody, please, please do,” she said. “It’s a good feeling to give kindness, and it’s a wonderful feeling to receive it.”
