Actor Robert De Niro is again railing against President Donald Trump, calling him “a classic hustler and a scam artist” and saying that his re-election is “going to be very, very bad.”
Robert De Niro made the remarks in a lengthy Variety interview with Al Pacino to promote the upcoming release of the Netflix drama The Irishman.
“[Trump] calls Washington a swamp because all he knows is a swamp,” De Niro said. “He’s a classic hustler and a scam artist. He has no morals. No ethics. If people don’t wake up and he gets reelected, it’s going to be very, very bad. Anybody who feels that way should say it. If you wait to say something, before you know it the dictators and despots come to power.”
Variety reported that De Niro’s temper flared during the interview when asked about Trump’s recent suggestion that Hollywood movies are responsible for creating violence.
“This is absolute nonsense,” De Niro told Variety, which noted that the actor’s voice rose as he stabbed his finger into a white tablecloth. “It’s bullshit.”
Variety reported that Pacino, who was seated opposite De Niro, didn’t offer any thoughts on Trump or gun control.
De Niro has been ranting against Trump throughout the promotional campaign for Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, which opens in select theaters Nov. 1 before streaming on Netflix later that month.
During the movie’s premiere last week at the New York Film Festival, De Niro told Variety on the red carpet, “He’s such a lowlife…He has no center, no ethics no morals.”

On Sunday, the two-time Oscar-winning actor told CNN’s Brian Stelter in an expletive filled interview that, “This guy is crazy. We’ve got to get him out.”
