Rookies Sweep Dunk, Skills Contests Prior to 8 p.m. All-Star Game

No rookie made the All-Star game that will tip off Sunday at 8 p.m., but rookie Damian Lillard won the NBA skills contest, and rookie Terrence Ross won the dunk contest. With some saying the last great dunk contest contestant, Ross slipped on a Vince Carter jersey and copied a Carter dunk from the past.

Lilliard credited growing up in a tough city with winning the tough obstacles cours in just 29.8 seconds to beat Philadelphia’s Jrue Holiday in the finals.

“I’ve played basketball a long time and I grew up in a tough city,” Lillard, a Trail Blazer, told the Associated Press.  “I’ve always been cool. I’ve always been comfortable with myself and confident with myself.”

Ross jumped  over a small child and the impressive slams of defending champion Jeremy Evans, receiving 58 percent of the fan vote.
