On Monday, at a symposium on the Washington Redskins name, Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) said the NFL and the Washington Redskins were actively promoting prejudice with the nickname of the football team.
According to Al Jazeera America, McCollum said the Redskins and the league are “promoting a racial slur” and emphasized that the “this issue is not going away.”
Over the weekend, the Associated Press released an interview with President Barack Obama in which he said he would “think about changing” the Redskins name if he were the owner of the team.
