Kimberly Guilfoyle Slams Redskins Name Controversy: ‘Not Legitimate,’ Ginned Up by Far Left ‘Crazies’

In a recent broadcast of Fox News’ “The Five,” host Kimberly Guilfoyle showed that she has just about had enough of the “far left crazies” who gin up hate for the Washington Redskins because of their “racist” team name.

Co-host Juan Williams brought up a column by The Nation’s David Zirin in which the writer accused the NFL of purposefully putting a team with a “racist” native American name on TV at Thanksgiving.

“The R*dskins slur — a name that exists only because of genocide and displacement — will have center stage,” Zirin complained in his hyperbolic November 17 editorial. (And, yes, Zirin put the asterisk in the Redskins name, treating the word as if it were an epithet.)

Williams agreed with Zirin that the Redskins name is “racist,” but seemed to doubt the liberal writer’s contention that there was some sort of grand NFL conspiracy afoot to push racism on Thanksgiving.

Even Greg Gutfeld, who usually scoffs at such things, pronounced the Redskins’ name a “bad” name.

But when Williams turned to Guilfoyle, it was clear she wasn’t having any of it.

Williams asked his co-host if she thought the controversy had merit? “This is not a legitimate controversy,” Guilfoyle replied. “I don’t think anybody is worked up over the Redskins playing on Thanksgiving, except for a few far-left crazies. No one cares about this.”

She supported her point by citing a recent survey of American Indians few of whom cared much about the Washington Redskins’ name.

“Nine out of 10 Native Americans said they are not offended by the Redskins name, according to a Washington Post poll,” she said. “So, who exactly is worked up?”

The Redskins will face the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day.
