Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns, revealed that his mother is in a medically induced coma after suffering from severe symptoms of the coronavirus.

The star player delivered the hard news in a passionate video where he announced that both of his parents came down with flu-like symptoms last week. Towns told his parents to seek medical attention and after a few days, his mother and father went to the hospital.

“This disease is real,” he said. “This disease needs not to be taken lightly. Please protect your families, your loved ones, your friends, yourself.”

As of the time of this writing, over 60,000 Americans have contracted the coronavirus and at least 819 have died.

Though Towns’ father has been released to self-quarantine at home, his mother’s condition did not improve, resulting in her placement in a medically induced coma.

“We always thought the next medicine would help,” Towns said. “The next one would help. This is the one that’s going to get it done. This one will make sure to get it done.”

Despite the severity of his mother’s condition, Towns remains hopeful for a full recovery.

“We’re going to keep fighting on my side. We’re going to win,” Towns said. “My mother is the strongest woman I know, and I know she will beat this. And we will rejoice when she does.”
