President Barack Obama arrives in California on Wednesday for a week-long trip filled with a host of Democratic fundraisers, including one at the home of Hillary Clinton donor Steve Westly, who spent more than $35 million on an unsuccessful 2006 run for governor.

Obama Calls Economy ‘Stronger’ After Historic Crash On Wall Street

“The economy is stronger, the housing market is stronger, people are seeing job creation again,” Obama said. He blamed Republicans on Congress for holding back the economy after they failed to pass an expansive highway bill.
“Right now, we could be putting hundreds of thousands of people back to work rebuilding the infrastructure of this country and yet we have a Congress that finances our highway bill for 3 months at a time,” he said. “That’s not what the greatest country on earth does.”

Obama Expected to Slow Traffic Again With Friday Bay Area Visit

President Barack Obama will head to San Francisco on Friday, en route from his 22nd visit to Southern California, to speak to the U.S. Conference of Mayors and attend several Democratic fundraisers. However, the Secret Service’s reluctance to share specifics as to what time and precise areas he will be in, for reasons of security, is likely to cause tremendous gridlock and painful traffic.

Funeral Planned for Discarded Infant

On May 11th, the body of an infant girl was found alongside Interstate 37, within sight of downtown San Antonio, by a Texas Department of Transportation crew cutting grass and weeds on the right of way. The body had been stuffed into a piece of luggage, and apparently thrown from a car.
