MCALLEN, Texas — The sentencing of a Gulf Cartel commander has been postponed after a federal judge refused to hand down a slap on the wrist. He asked prosecutors and the federal probation office to do more research before sentencing him.
A joint operation between the FBI and several Texas police departments near the border has resulted in multiple arrests of suspected online predators, and authorities are concerned about the overwhelming response to their sting operation. Within four days, five men were arrested after responding to what they believed was an invitation from a 14-year-old girl to meet them for sex. Additional arrests are expected in the coming days.
The newly sworn in District Attorney (DA) for Hidalgo County said he will keep his pledge for a public corruption task force. Breitbart Texas has reported extensively about corruption in the South Texas border county. The issue came to a head earlier last year when Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino resigned, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison for money laundering.
