An event organised by Gays Against Sharia to mark the anniversary of the Orlando shooting has been branded “divisive” and “Islamophobic” by LGBT activists planning a counter-protest.
“Solidarity through pride” may have been the theme of the 33rd Dallas LGBT parade but security was the top priority at Sunday’s day-long festivities.
Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper declined to speak with a Breitbart News reporter on Friday about the Orlando terror attack, saying: “You are anti-Muslim bigots.”
In an English language video posted to Facebook on Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the casualties in Sunday’s deadly nightclub shooting in Orlando were victims of homophobia and intolerance and called on people not to give in to “hate and fear.”
The residual disdain the LGBT community holds for the religious right prevents it from seeing the pure hatred it faces from radical Islam.
In a statement the MSA says it extends its “support to the LGBTQ community in condemning this violent hate crime as an act of homophobia that will not be tolerated.”
