The hacking group who claimed responsibility for the temporary shutdown of Pokémon Go servers over the weekend have warned of a “larger scale attack” in two weeks time.

The group, known as “PoodleCorp,” told the YouTube channel Drama Alert that the attack over the weekend was “just was a little test” and that they “will do something on a larger scale soon.”

Talking to the channel, the spokesperson for PoodleCorp added that their motive for the attacks was “because they can” and that “chaos is entertainment.”

PoodleCorp have since tweeted a message saying “August 1st #PoodleCorp #PokémonGo,” with the spokesperson adding that they will be taking down the servers on that date for 24 hours.

The community news group for Pokémon Go said they are aware of the plan:

However, developer Niantic Labs claimed the attack did not happen as a result of their servers being hacked.

“Due to the incredible number of Pokémon Go downloads, some Trainers are experiencing server connectivity issues,” the company wrote on their website. “Don’t worry, our team is on it.”
