HOUSTON, Texas — Officers in Texas have joined in the latest “Running Man” challenge by rocking before the camera and putting on their best dance boogies.

Houston Police Department officers were videoed in front of a “We Love Houston” sculpture this week dancing to the 1990’s hit song by the Ghost Town DJ’s- “My Boo.”

The officers are joining other law enforcement agencies in the country who have done the same, as reported by the ABC Houston affiliate. Officers in Miami, Florida, and Detroit, Michigan, and New Zealand have already taken the “Running Man” challenge. ABC13 reported that only thirteen cameras were there to get a look at the Houston edition.

Officers in Frisco, Texas, and in The Colony near Dallas, have also joined in the craze and they have challenged officers in nearby cities and towns, as reported by the CBS affiliate in Dallas.

Two high school students, Kevin Vincent and Jeremiah Hall from New Jersey started the “Running Man” dance. Here is a YouTube video of the pair on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Two basketball players from the University of Maryland made the dance go viral.

Houston Police Department Officer Josephine Jones told ABC13, “It’s important. It’s important because right now, policing in itself … We’re getting a bad rap around the United States. We take care of business when it needs to be taken care of, but there is a lighthearted side to policing too.” She added, “We want to let the world know that the Houston Police Department can dance and that we can have fun.”

Jones, who works in the recruiting division, says that a video is due to be released by the end of the month. She wants the Houston video to go viral.

“Hit share. Hit share. Tag all your friends. Tag your family. We want this thing to go viral. HPD represents for you. Let’s go. We want you to represent for us,” said Officer Jones. “I’m looking forward to the citizens of Houston and the surrounding area, I’m looking forward to them seeing that we are human just as you are. We not only love what we do. We love Houston.”

The Houston media outlet also reported that Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner participated in the Running Man challenge last week. Turner was joined by Houston’s “Smash Girls” who help take care of a deaf Houston Mounted Patrol Horse named “Smash.”
