'New York Times' Report Contradicts Rice Sunday Show Claim Bergdahl 'Taken In Battle'

During her Sunday interview on ABC’s This Week, National Security Adviser Susan Rice told America that Sergeant Bowe Begdahl had been “captured on the battlefield” and “taken in battle.” A new report from
The New York Times contradicts that claim.

According to the Times, Bergdahl, “slipped off the remote military outpost in Paktika Province” and left behind a note saying “he had become disillusioned with the Army, did not support the American mission in Afghanistan and was leaving to start a new life.”

But if you watch the clip of Rice’s Sunday’s This Week appearance, it leaves no doubt that she is attempting to spin the release of five Taliban leaders for Bergdahl as an administration triumph. To sell the swap, she paints Bergdahl as a hero taken down and captured while fighting for his country:

Sergeant Bergdahl wasn’t simply a hostage. He was an American prisoner of war captured on the battlefield. We have a sacred obligation we have upheld since the found of our Republic to do our utmost to bring back our men and women who are taken in battle.

Already infamous over her 2012 round robin of Sunday shows where she falsely blamed a YouTube video for the 2012 terrorist attack that resulted in four Americans being killed in Benghazi,  Rice’s latest Sunday show appearance is raising a whole new series of questions about the National Security Adviser’s truthfulness.
