ESPN’s Foxworth: Steve Kerr, Gregg Popovich Not Giving Political Opinions When Speaking Out Against Trump — They’re Making Statements About Society

Appearing as a guest host Friday on ESPN’s “First Take,” Domonique Foxworth claimed that when Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr and San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich speak out against President Donald Trump and openly discuss politics, they are merely making statements about society rather than giving their political opinions.

“[W]e celebrate Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich and their political opinions and this one is somewhere outside the bounds with Bob McNair,” Will Cain stated as “First Take” debated Houston Texans owner Bob McNair openly lamenting Barack Obama becoming president and donating to Trump’s inaugural committee.

He added, “The hypocrisy is absurd … if somebody has a different political opinion, we indict them. These guys share it every time there’s a microphone on them.”

“Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr are not making political opinions,” Foxworth replied. “They are making statements about our society, which is different than a political opinion.

Since Trump became president, Kerr has spoken out against guns, mocked President Trump, said the president uses “divisive comments” and argued against Trump’s immigration ban. In the same time frame, Popovich has said Trump “brings out the dark side of human beings,” claimed the United States is a “racist country” and called Trump a “soulless coward.”
