Rep. Gosar Attacked Unfairly by Fellow Conservatives
Representative Paul Gosar has done an excellent job as a freshman in Congress. He’s a Tea Party conservative and backed by Tea Party favorite, Sarah Palin. But instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt, fellow Tea Party conservatives are jumping on him by some remarks in a video posted by Unite In Action.
In the video Rep. Gosar says, “If all you’re going to do is stand just for the Constitution and nothing less, you will lose. We have to have the Constitution but a plan to get back.”
A panelist asks him what would someone lose by standing just for the Constitution and as Rep. Gosar responds, “Because not everyone believes in the Constution. You have fifty percent……” But before he could continue he was rudely interrupted by KrisAnne Hall, Unite In Action’s Director of Legal Affairs.
Ms. Hall goes on and on without giving Rep. Gosar an opportunity to answer the panelist’s question. If he was allowed to answer he would have talked about how we the people need to put action behind those words in the Constitution.
In his blog post, “The Constitution’s Keepers” Rep. Gosar was able to explain what he meant before he was interrupted. The people are the authority, not the government. The Constitution protects us from the government. We need to help others understand the Constitution.
“If we don’t have a culture that respects the Constitution and who prizes independent men and women who ask not what their country can do for them, but what they can do for their country, then our nation will not long endure,” Rep. Gosar wrote. “It is thus vital that the people know, respect and love the Constitution.”
Rep. Gosar is a Tea Party conservative. He has also been one of the most vocal in Congress about Operation Fast & Furious. Instead of jumping on one of our own why don’t we give them the benefit of the doubt and allow them to explain? This is not a time for division.
