Sen. Sherrod Brown Lies About Abortion Record

How much of a dyed-in-the-wool liar is Sherrod Brown on abortion?

Here’s how much. In last Thursday’s debate, Brown’s opponent, Josh Mandel, confronted him:

“Sherrod Brown has an extremist position and actually supports abortion in the ninth month of pregnancy. Sen. Brown, can you explain to the people at home tonight why you support abortion in the ninth month of pregnancy?”

Brown lied with a straight face, “I’ve never heard anybody say that before Josh, I’m not aware of that.”

Oh, really?

In 2000, when Brown was serving in the House of Representatives, he voted against a ban on partial birth abortions. He voted against it again in 2003.

A partial-birth abortion is a procedure where in the second or third trimester the abortionist “deliberately and intentionally vaginally delivers a living fetus until, in the case of a head-first presentation, the entire fetal head is outside the body of the mother, or, in the case of breech presentation, any part of the fetal trunk past the navel is outside the body of the mother, for the purpose of performing an overt act that the person knows will kill the partially delivered living fetus; and performs the overt act, other than completion of delivery, that kills the partially delivered living fetus.”

In 1992, Dr. Martin Haskell, who had performed over 700 partial-birth abortions himself, presented a paper in which he stated 80% of abortions are "purely elective." As Dr. Pamela Smith testified before the Senate, there are “in fact absolutely no obstetrical situations encountered in this country which require a partially delivered human fetus to be destroyed to preserve the life or health of the mother.”

Mandel had it exactly right; Brown does support abortion in the ninth moth of pregnancy. Brown lied directly to the people when he said he never has. Do the people of Ohio support taking a baby about to be born and murdering it?
