Obama on Gun Control Defeat in Senate: 'It's Just the First Round'
Speaking from Mexico on May 2, President Obama said the recent defeat of gun control in the U.S. Senate was "just the first round."
"The last time we had major gun legislation, it took 6, 7, 8 tries to get it passed," Obama said. "Things happen somewhat slowly in Washington, but this is just the first round."
Although gun shows are filled to more-than-capacity, the NRA's membership is growing by leaps and bounds, and gun groups like the National Association for Gun Rights are receiving hundreds of thousands of faxes against gun control, Obama plans to keep pushing.
"When you've got 90 percent of the American people supporting the initiatives we put forward... I believe that eventually we are going to get that done, and I'm going to keep on trying," he declared.
The day before Obama claimed "90 percent support," a Quinnipiac University poll showed that 52 percent of America opposes Obama's pursuit of gun control.
