Jeb Bush Criticizes Defunding Obamacare Strategy

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush echoed the sentiment of others in the Republican establishment when he came out against conservatives who want to defund Obamacare.

“I’d just add a little dose of reality,” Bush said at the National Press Club on Wednesday. “If you control one-half of one-third of leverage in Washington, D.C., your ability to influence things are also relative to the fact that you have one-half of one-third of the government.”

On Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) set a vote on a resolution to fund the government except for Obamacare for Friday. Senators like Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Mike Lee (R-UT) and conservative groups like Tea Party Patriots and ForAmerica have insisted that the House pass such a resolution so that Republicans can then “win the argument” with Americans by arguing that President Barack Obama and Democrats would rather shut down the government than extend the special favors and exemptions extended to some to all Americans.

Bush added, “so as we get closer to these deadlines, there needs to be an understanding of that, or politically it’s quite dicey for the Republican Party.”
