Lots of good comments and questions from my piece from yesterday, which is linked above:
Could you describe your version of movie/TV/online/etc utopia from a consumer purchase and user experience point of view? Love your … crusade against cable bundling - been hating that since my first cable bill.
My utopia would be for a cable provider to bribe me with thousands of dollars a month to get off this kick. If that doesn't happen, realistically I would like to see the end of Hollywood's cable television monopoly that is currently the scourge of every community in America and see it replaced with a number of streaming outlets that would compete with one another and, combined, carry every program currently available on cable, especially Fox News and football games.
Bundled cable is an evil created by greedy left-wing Hollywood as a monopoly in order to gouge customers for channels they don't want and to prop up low-rated left-wing programming that could never survive on commercial advertisements alone.
I have a question. If I cut cable, how can I get Fox News, HBO, History channel, the ones I like.
Right now you can't get a Fox News broadcast online. You can't get football either, which is a real problem when you're married to a hot little Green Bay Packer fanatic, as I am.
You can, however, get HBO programming through DVD, either by purchasing or renting. So if you’re willing to wait, that will definitely save you money. Also, as of now, there is some History Channel programming on Netflix Streaming. It's just older shows and previous seasons. Again, over time, they will likely update with newer seasons, but you have to be willing to wait.
And I know I am. I also know that I'm willing to give up Fox News.
However, I urge everyone considering this move to check out the programming available on Hulu (which does have some commercials) and Netflix Streaming (which doesn't) beforehand. Also, unlike some, I am not in any way encouraging anyone to pirate broadcasts or violate a contract with your cable or satellite provider.
Right now I'm paying around $60 a month for satellite programming I hardly watch. But I signed a contract and that's all there is to that.
900,000 EXPECTED TO CUT THE CORD THIS YEAR
I'm guessing that number will end up being higher than that.
I know I'm doing my best to spread the word.
READ JAMES CAMERON'S RESPONSES TO FANS WHO DISLIKED 'ALIENS'
How could anyone dislike "Aliens"? I understand how people can dislike James Cameron, but "Aliens?" Madness.
"Aliens" was one of the first movies my wife and I saw together when we first started dating. My souvenir is a scar from her digging her fingernails into my hand.
Well worth it.
‘RAGING BULL 2′ BEGINS PRODUCTION IN JUNE
Casting is underway, and production begins in June, on “Raging Bull II”.
Based on the book “Raging Bull II” by Chris Anderson, Sharon McGehee and Jake LaMotta, the film is said to serve as a companion piece to the Martin Scorsese film and is both a prequel and sequel to the events depicted in the latter.
Robert De Niro is not reprising the role of LaMotta. William Forsythe, who played opposite De Niro in “Once Upon a Time in America” (and also reprised De Niro’s Al Capone role for a TV spin-off of “The Untouchables” in the early ’90s), has inherited the gloves.
This isn't a terrible idea, actually. LaMotta is a fascinating character and William Forsythe is a terrific actor perfectly suited to play a middle-aged man with a dangerous hair-trigger who is plagued by demons.
My concern is that the director, Martin Guigui, has nothing on his resume that tells me he's up to a "companion piece" with the Scorsese classic.
So the "Carlito's Way: Rise to Power" vibe is strong with this one.
SO WHAT DO YOU DO, JAMES LIPTON?
Other than put way too much dye in your beard?
'DAILY SHOW/COLBERT REPORT' REPORT BREAK 1%!
Yesterday was a banner day for America's precious satirists. Between the two of them, Colbert and Stewart managed to muster up around 3.5 million viewers, which might be a little over 1% of the American population.
Maybe these two left-wing, Obama-guarding, speech policers are actually catching on with, you know, The People!
QUOTE OF THE DAY
What is it with these news stories that constantly seem like a late April Fool's Day joke? First there was Eddie Murphy joining Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito in TRIPLETS, then Ashton Kutcher playing Steve Jobs, and now we have a follow-up to Martin Scorsese's seminal film RAGING BULL. Yep, Movie Hole has a confirmed exclusive that RAGING BULL II is casting as we speak with an eye towards starting production in Los Angeles this summer.
LAST NIGHT'S SCREENING
"Breakout Kings" Season 1: Formulaic, not terribly clever in the plot/mystery department, but still awfully entertaining and with a conservative streak to boot.
I'm watching a screener, but I think this is streaming on Netflix if you want to go for a test run.

8:00 PM EST: Love Me Or Leave Me (1955) -- True story of torch singer Ruth Etting's struggle to escape the gangster who made her a star. Dir: Charles Vidor Cast: Doris Day, James Cagney, Cameron Mitchell. C-122 mins, TV-PG, CC, Letterbox Format
Most every time this is on I recommend it, and for good reason. The production, direction, and music are all top-notch, as is Doris Day, but Cagney is outstanding here. He plays a wicked little son of a bitch, but somehow The Mighty Cagney still makes you sympathize with him, especially near the end.
One of Cagney's best performances, which is saying a lot.
