Scientology is taking some body blows in the press of late.

The late 2012 release The Master showcased a Scientology-esque religious guru's rise to fame. The new book Going Clear is hardly a positive account of the religion given its subtitle - "Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief." And tabloid stories surrounding Scientologist Tom Cruise's ties to the church remain a gossip staple.

Now, Parenthood star and lifelong church member Erika Christensen is ready to defend her faith.

"[People assume] we're some kind of closed group and we're just the Hollywood religion ... and we worship rabbits. I don't actually know how many people think that," she joked....

"If I had to sum it up, the goal of Scientology is giving the person back to themselves. Like, your own power of choice."
