Obama Talked With Bibi While Benghazi Burned

While the assault on the American Embassy in Benghazi was occurring, Barack Obama took out an hour to speak with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in order to have Obama’s aides rush a report out that Obama really was a friend of Israel. The controversy that erupted after Obama’s refusal to meet Netanyahu at the U.N. General Assembly had damaged Obama with Jewish voters, and Obama needed something to win them back. That night, the White House issued a statement to that purpose:

“President Obama spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu for an hour tonight as a part of their ongoing consultations. The two leaders discussed the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear program, and our close cooperation on Iran and other security issues…”

Netanyahu, experienced in dealing with Islamist terror but unaware of the situation in Benghazi, would surely have understood if Obama had cut the phone call short. Someone had to take the news of the conversation out to the public; if there were people going in and out of the room, why didn’t anyone inform the president what was going on in Benghazi? Or did he know and just dismiss it as unimportant to his reelection?
