Braves' McCann Replaces Freeman on All-Star Roster

Dodgers’ rookie Yasiel Puig has received more votes than any other player in the history of the final fan All-Star vote except for Freddie Freeman. Unfortunately for Puig, his vote occurred the same year as Freeman. And when it was announced on Sunday that Freeman could no longer play in the game due to jamming his left thumb, his teammate Brian McCann took his place on the roster.

Freeman was injured in the Braves 5-2 win over the Reds Saturday, a win that kept the Braves ahead of the Reds for the third best record in baseball.

Puig is hitting .392 with eight home runs in just 148 at bats and has stolen four bases and showed off a cannon arm in the outfield. On a per game basis he may be battling only teammate Hanley Ramirez as the best everyday player in the league as credentials to be selected now that Freeman is out. However, he has also dropped a routine fly, and been accused by some opponents of lacking maturity and not deserving of the game due to having only played just over a month of baseball.
