Cost Per Athlete at Sochi Games: $19 Million

The cost per athlete at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games is nearly $19 million.

As Global Post noted (see infographic below), the Sochi Games ($51 billion) are seven times more expensive than the last 2010 Winter Games ($7.4 billion) in Vancouver and cost $20 billion more than the 2012 Summer Games in China ($32 billion).

There are 2,700 athletes participating in the Games, and even a plurality of Russians in a recent poll felt that the cost of the Games soured because of crony capitalism and rampant corruption.
