Ex-NFL Star: More Law-Abiding Citizens with Guns Could Have Stopped CA Attacks

Ex-NFL star Lito Sheppard says Elliot Rodger’s ability to prey on University of California-Santa Barbara students would have been greatly diminished “if more people were legally carrying guns.” The disturbed narcissist killed seven students, including himself, over the holiday weekend.

Speaking to TMZ, Sheppard said:

If you were in a situation like this, and you had more legal gun carriers with you, you could stop it. [Just] like, if you were in a mall and someone started shooting and you had some good people with guns there, you might be able to stop them. Or maybe you would lose only one person or two people instead of like 100.

TMZ asked if the attacks should result in tougher gun laws and he said: “It doesn’t make any sense to make it tougher for responsible citizens to get guns.”

Sheppard also spoke to how the criminal will always have guns and how more gun laws against law-abiding citizens simply increases the pool of guns in the “black market” for bad people.

Sheppard last competed in the NFL during the 2011 season. He played for ten years in the league primarily for the Eagles, with stints on the Jets, Raiders, and Vikings. The cornerback appeared in two Pro Bowls and boasts two 100-plus-yard pick-six returns.
