Christie: I Don't Give a Damn About Presidential Politics Right Now

FOX NEWS: New Jersey Governor Chris Christie joined Fox and Friends this morning to talk about the cleanup process in his state following Hurricane Sandy. He said that this has been a “devastating storm” and New Jersey “probably took worse than any other state” because the hurricane made landfall there. There is almost no power in city of Newark because of the tidal surge and 2.4 million households are without power there. Christie believes the worst is over but is keeping an eye out for high tide today and hoping to get into a helicopter to tour the state and assess the damage. Specifically in Atlantic City and Cape May where the heart of the storm came in, Christie had warned residents to leave, but the mayor there had a different message.

“My job as governor first and foremost is to protect the health and safety of the people of this state and that’s why I ordered an evacuation of the Barrier Islands including Atlantic City well ahead of the arrival of the storm. I’m disappointed that that order wasn’t completely complied with and I have great sympathy and concern for the people who are still trapped…”

On the question of whether Mitt Romney might go to New Jersey to tour the damage with Governor Christie, he said, “I have no idea, nor am I the least bit concerned or interested. I have a job to do in New Jersey that is much bigger than presidential politics. I could care less about any of that stuff… If you think right now I give a damn about president politics, then you don’t know me.”
