Obama's Strongest Opposition May Come from Within--over Spoils, not Principle

President Obama holds unprecedented sway over his own party--and yet the first signs of internal tension are already bursting into the open. The news that he has turned his campaign into a permanent, non-profit organizing outfit to push for his policies has been greeted with frustration by members of the Democratic National Committee, who see the new “Organizing for Action” group as a competitor for fundraising dollars and power. 23 Jan 2013

Taking the Fall: Hillary Clinton to Testify on Benghazi Attack Today

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today on the Sep. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens. Clinton missed previous opportunities to testify due to a fall she sustained while recovering from the stomach flu; doctors later discovered and treated a blood clot near her brain. Her testimony will mark her last week as Secretary of State, and will likely leave many questions about the attack still unanswered. 23 Jan 2013

Israel's 'Recount': Dead Heat Awaits Absentee, Military Votes

Israeli politics were gripped by tension and drama early Wednesday as the center-right and center-left blocs deadlocked in a 60-60 tie for seats in the Israeli Knesset. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's party was the clear winner, and he will likely be invited to form a governing coalition by President Shimon Peres. However, his potential coalition partners did poorly, as the new Yesh Atid party surged to a surprise second place finish. Yesh Atid's leader, former television journalist Yair Lapid, will now play the kingmaker. 22 Jan 2013

With Narrative Broken, Media May Need New Pro-Obama Narrative on Israel

After today's surprising result, which leaves Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu likely to return to power but leading a smaller, more centrist coalition, the media are apparently pivoting, declaring the election to be a setback for Netanyahu and, implicitly, a win for President Barack Obama's foreign policy. 22 Jan 2013

Netanyahu Declares Victory in Israel Election

With polls closing in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party is leading the parliamentary elections, based on projections from exit polls. However, Netanyahu may struggle to form a governing coalition, after several opposition parties posted strong performances. NPR Tries to Rewrite Roe v. Wade History

In keeping with the revisionist ambitions of President Barack Obama’s second inaugural address, National Public Radio has taken the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade to rewrite the history of that decision. According to NPR’s Julie Rovner, the Roe decision was not to blame for triggering enduring national divisions over abortion: rather, it was the Nixon campaign of 1972, and the Astroturf activism of the Catholic Church. 22 Jan 2013

Obama: 'Peace in Our Time'

It was either an embarrassing slip, or a frightening revelation of the president’s true worldview. Either way, the words “peace in our time,” made infamous by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain as he promised an illusory peace with Adolf Hitler in 1938, should never have been in President Barack Obama’s second inaugural address. Yet they were, and went virtually unnoticed until caught by conservatives on social media. 22 Jan 2013
