With seven pro-Second Amendment bills before the Colorado state legislature on February 22—including some that would repeal certain gun laws instituted in 2013—Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America urged Democrats to dig in and oppose the repeal of gun control.
Moms Demand Action saw their cause supported by other gun control proponents who argued for gun control on the grounds that the attacks on Sandy Hook, the Aurora theater, and Columbine High School snatched loved ones from their lives.
The gun control proponents did not mention that Sandy Hook, the Aurora theater, and Columbine High School all had 100 percent gun control. Guns were completely banned from the property of all three, but that did not stop criminals from acting on their criminality.
Yet Democrats in the Democrat-controlled house rejected every bill, while Democrats in the Republican-controlled senate were powerless to stop a bill to repeal universal background checks and another to allow concealed carry without a permit.
According to The Denver Post, the bill to repeal background checks—SB 86—passed along a party line vote of 3-2 in the Senate Judiciary Committee. That same committee also passed SB 32, a bill which “allows a person who can legally possess a handgun under state and federal law to carry a concealed handgun in Colorado without a permit.”
Arizona’s concealed carry law is structured similarly.
The pro-gun bills in “the Democrat controlled State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee” were also rejected along party lines, with 5 Republicans voting “yea” and 6 Democrats voting “nay.”
On February 1, Breitbart News reported that pro-gun control senators in Oregon’s legislature are hoping the presence of more Democrats in 2015 translates into better chances for gun control in their state.
