On May 13, a woman shot an alleged home invader twice to save children who were sleeping in the apartment when the suspect forced his way inside.

The incident occurred just after midnight.

According to WKYT, the suspect allegedly forced his way through the apartment’s back door and was shot by one of two women who were awake at the time.

Lexington Police Lieutenant Chris Young said the man “made entry into the apartment against the wishes of the occupants. One of those occupants was able to fire a couple of rounds from a handgun, which did strike our victim at which time he was disabled and we responded to the call.”

Two children were sleeping in the apartment when the incident occurred.

Police are not releasing the names of those involved but are describing the “break-in [as] a domestic incident.” They say “the shooter knew the burglar but she was not the mother of the two children.”

The suspect is currently hospitalized as a result of gunshot wounds and will be facing charges once released.
