U.S. Olympic medal winner Mirai Nagasu performed her nearly flawless routine this week, and many wondered about that giant USA leg tattoo running down the inside of her right leg. The skater had a bemused answer to questions about the marking.
Many pondered why Nagasu would go through the long process for such a giant tattoo. Is she that patriotic? According to the New York Post, the skater quickly responded to Twitter queries by informing fans that the marking was not a tattoo at all.
It turns out it was just product placement.
Jumping to her Twitter account, the California native joked, “This is the first I’m hearing of this but definitely not a big bold tattoo”:

The giant USA marking was just a segment of sports tape created by KTTape, a pain relief company acting as an Olympic sponsor.
Nagasu wowed sports fans at this year’s Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, by making history for performing the first-ever triple axel by an American woman at the Winter Games.
Her nearly flawless routine earned Nagasu a personal-best score of 137.53 and a bronze medal.
