Eight states hold primary elections tonight, but all eyes will be on California, where Democrats could get shut out in key House races in the Golden State because of California’s top-two jungle primary system.

Alabama, New Jersey, Iowa, Mississippi, New Mexico, Montana, and South Dakota will also hold primaries.

Breitbart’s Sean Moran is on the ground in the Big Sky state, covering the GOP Senate primary. Moran will be sending in updates from Matt Rosendale’s campaign headquarters.

Rosendale continues to lead at 33.7 percent of the vote, while Fagg has 29.2 percent, with 48 percent of precincts reporting.

At 12:04 PM ET Matt Rosendale took first place in the Montana Republican primary, 31.9 percent of the vote and Russ Fagg with 31.7 percent of the vote. The Rosendale headquarters erupted in applause and cheers as the state auditor took the lead… 28 percent of the polls are reporting.

11:55 PM: Good news so far for Californians opposed to the gas tax increase (measure to repeal gas tax could be a big turnout booster in the fall):

11:50 PM: In California, Breitbart’s Joel Pollak notes that “early results in California look favorable for Republican John Cox in his quest to qualify for the November ballot against Democrat Gavin Newsom. There are very few results in from Southern California, however.” Exit polls had Cox in second behind Newsom and Villaraigosa fourth behind Republican Travis Allen.

11:42 PM: Noem wins GOP gubernatorial primary in South Dakota:

11:35 PM: In a given, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) secures one of the two spots for CA’s Senate race. State Senator Kevin de Leon, the left-wing author of the state’s “sanctuary state” law, not guaranteed to get the second spot.

11: 30 PM: Another Montana update from Boyle:

As of 11:28 p.m. ET, some discrepancies in still early Montana Senate primary results. CNN has Matt Rosendale in the lead, while the New York Times and Politico have Russell Fagg in the lead. Still 80 percent out there. It’s going to be a long night in Montana.

11:10 PM: Montana update from Breitbart’s Matt Boyle:

Early returns in Montana’s Senate primary show a razor thin race for now on the GOP side as conservative Matt Rosendale is within a couple hundred votes of establishment-backed Russell Fagg. Fagg was out to an early lead of nearly 10,000 votes but Rosendale has closed in on him quick, making this race one to watch with just over 16 percent of precincts reporting so far. Whoever wins this nomination will face off against Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) in November, a top GOP pick-up opportunity in a state President Donald Trump crushed Hillary Rodham Clinton in in November 2016.

11:06 PM: Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD) leading in gubernatorial primary. Could become first female governor in South Dakota.

11:02 PM: Early exit poll has GOP gubernatorial candidate John Cox in second behind Dem. Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom.

11:00 PM: Polls now closed in California.

10: 55 PM: CA Dem. gubernatorial candidate Antonio Villaraigosa wants polls to be kept open longer because roughly 118,000 voters were left off the rolls in Los Angeles County.

With 5 percent of the polls reporting, Fagg leads at 53 percent to Rosendale’s 22.7 percent. Fagg has a stronghold in Yellowstone county, where Rosendale’s support is more dispersed throughout the state.

10:09 PM: From Breitbart’s Sean Moran in Montana: With 4,206 votes in, Matt Rosendale leads with 46 percent of the vote, Russell Fagg 27 percent, and Albert Olszewski has 16 percent of the vote

9:45 PM: Error left 118,000 voters off roster in Los Angeles County. Could impact retiring GOP Rep. Ed Royce’s District (CA-39), which includes a small part of Los Angeles County.

According to CNN:

A random printing error on the voter roster in Los Angeles County caused widespread confusion in the midst of voting in the California primary on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder said that the names of 118,522 voters were omitted from the roster that poll workers use to check in voters at their polling place.
In an interview, a spokesman with the county registrar said the office did not know what parts of the county were affected, but some 1,530 precincts of the 4,357 Los Angeles County voting locations were impacted.

9:25 PM: Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) projected to win Dem. nomination in NJ by a margin that is hardly overwhelming despite not having a serious challenger from the left. May mean he’ll be in some trouble in the fall against Hugin. Menendez’s opponent, Lisa McCormick, got nearly 40% of the vote despite getting no funding. Even Dem. voters in New Jersey may be sending Menendez a message.

9:00 PM: Bob Hugin wins GOP Senate nomination in New Jersey, and his race is called before Menendez’s. He will face Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in the fall.

8:55 PM: Establishment GOP Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) cruises to win without serious primary challenge in Mississippi:

8:10 PM: Polls are now closed in Alabama. Will anti-Trump Congresswoman Martha Roby prevail tonight? Trump, using a “loyalty test,” is reportedly not going to endorse candidates who have slammed him, which could mean trouble for Roby if there is a runoff after tonight.

Polls close in California at 11 p.m. ET. Can Republican gubernatorial candidate John Cox, who has surged after President Donald Trump’s endorsement, make it on the November ballot? In Montana, will Matt Rosendale prevail?
