The Weinstein Co. unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming film Gold this week.
Gold stars Matthew McConaughey as prospector Kenny Wells, who stumbles upon the world’s biggest gold mine in Indonesia. From the looks of the trailer, McConaughey was serious about getting into the character, as his trademark good hair is gone.
The film is reportedly based loosely on the true-life Bre-X gold mining scandal of the mid-1990s.
Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) directs off of a script from Patrick Massett and John Zinman (Friday Night Lights).
Bryce Dallas Howard, Edgar Ramirez, Toby Kebbell and Bruce Greenwood co-star.
Gold is in theaters December 25.
