The nationwide “Concert Across America to End Gun Violence” — a concert series aimed at securing increased gun control measures for law-abiding citizens — has expanded to include 350 events.
Breitbart News reported in August on the launch of the musical gun control-related events, only 100 of which were scheduled at the time. But Rolling Stone now reports the number of scheduled events has more than tripled. The events will take place across the country on September 25.
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, Rosanne Cash and Jackson Browne will headline the evening’s centerpiece concert at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.
“On Sunday we will drown out the hateful rhetoric that has become the hallmark of the gun debate with music, and create a positive national moment of collective remembrance, supported by action and a commitment to change,” Cash said in a statement. “I believe our country is good enough and strong enough to eliminate senseless gun violence and prevent the destruction of one more family.
In addition to Browne and Cash, the gun control events will feature the Gay Men’s Chorus of L.A., former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, Alternate Routes guitarist Eric Donnelly, Bush Pilots’ Matthew Gross and Marc Cohn, among others.
Cohn supports more gun control on law-abiding citizens after experiencing an August 7, 2005 car-jacking attempt in which a criminal shot at Cohn and his band mates. ABC News reports that Cohn was struck with a bullet during the crime.
The concert series for gun control was preceded by an open letter to Congress calling for increased gun control measures in the wake of the June 12 Orlando terrorist attack. On June 23, Breitbart News reported that 200 musicians — including Browne, Cash, Paul McCartney and Cher — signed the letter. The gun control push ignored the fact that the Orlando attacker passed a background check and waiting period for his guns. He also passed a psychological evaluation to acquire a Florida state Security Officer license.
