Supermodel Gigi Hadid, 21, said she has “every right to defend” herself after she was grabbed and lifted from behind by a man believed to be celebrity prankster Vitalii Sediuk during Milan Fashion Week.

Sediuk explained on social media that he conducted the prank to protest both Hadid and her friend Kendall Jenner being considered “high fashion,” and also to take a dig at Vogue editor Anna Wintour. “By doing this I encourage fashion industry to put true talents on the runway and Vogue covers instead of well-connected cute girls from Instagram,” Sediuk wrote in an Instagram post where he outed himself as the mysterious aggressor.

“Who the f*ck are you! You piece of sh*t!” Hadid could be seen and heard shouting on a video that was acquired by the Daily Mail. Hadid could be seen elbowing and using her fists to make the man put her back down. He eventually did.

Security arrived and reportedly whisked a visibly shaken Hadad away. As she entered the vehicle, she asked one of the photographers if they could find out who the man who picked her up was.

She later took to social media to defend her actions and wrote “I’m a HUMAN BEING and had EVERY RIGHT to defend myself. How dare that idiot think he has the right to man-handle a complete stranger. He ran quick tho…”

Hadid had been walking, hand-in-hand, with her sister Bella after the fashion show when the incident took place.
Sediuk issued a statement on Instagram in response to the media’s coverage of his act:

While I consider Gigi Hadid beautiful, she and her friend Kendall Jenner, have nothing to do with high fashion. By doing this I encourage fashion industry to put true talents on the runway and Vogue covers instead of well-connected cute girls from Instagram. You can call it a manifest or a protest. This is also a wake up call for Anna Wintour who turned Vogue into tabloid by putting Kardashians and other doubtful celebrities on a cover of a well-respected magazine.

The comments on his Instagram account have not been kind.

Wintour has also faced criticism for featuring Kanye West and Kim Kardashian-West on Vogue’s April of 2014 cover.
