Watch: Medical Students Experiment with Death in First Trailer for ‘Flatliners’ Remake

“It’s a good day to die.”

Sony Pictures released the first trailer for its remake of the 1990 cult thriller Flatliners this week.

Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev, Diego Luna and Kiersey Clemons play medical students who experiment by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, in order to examine what it feels like to die. But the group gets more than they bargained for when their near-death experiences bleed over into waking life.

The original Flatliners was directed by Joel Schumacher and starred Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland, and Julia Roberts. The film was nominated for a special effects Oscar and later became a cult hit; Sutherland reportedly makes a cameo in the update.

Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) directs off of a script from Ben Ripley (Source Code). Charlotte McKinney, James Norton, and Tyler Hynes co-star.

Flatliners is in theaters September 29.
