City officials fired the top public safety official in the Mexican border city of Acuna over allegations of sexual abuse of migrants. The firing followed a series of videos and photos where he allegedly coerced migrants into sexual acts in exchange of getting them passage to Texas.

This week, the City of Acuna published a notice on social media where they announced the termination of Leonardo Daniel Carrera Martinez, the city’s civil protection director. Officials announced an investigation into the case. While the city did not specify the specific reason for the firing, they posted that they would not be covering up nor supporting any illegal activities.

In his role as civil protection director, Carrera Martinez oversaw the conditions at the local migrant shelters. These shelters have seen a dramatic increase in traffic in recent months as a larger number of migrants arrive at the border city in an attempt to reach Texas. This week, a series of photographs and videos began to spread on social media where Carrera Martinez is allegedly seen having sexual intercourse with a migrant female in a hotel room in what appears to be a party with several other individuals there.

A Coahuila government official spoke with Breitbart News and revealed that the ongoing investigation points to Carrera Martinez allegedly demanding sexual favors from migrant females in exchange for getting them into Texas. While the investigation is currently being handled at the local level, there is some government pressure to turn the case over to state authorities.
