On May 16, Gabby Giffords took part in a “gun control forum” in Los Angeles, where she stumped for Hillary Clinton and more gun control laws.
Giffords’ husband, Mark Kelly, spoke at the forum, as well.
According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Giffords told the approximately 50 attendees at the event that she has difficulty talking but looks forward to saying “Madam President” in January 2017. Kelly told attendees that America is in the “grips of a gun violence crisis” and more gun control needed.
Neither Giffords nor Kelly pointed out that the cities making headlines for gun violence–Baltimore, Chicago, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New Orleans, New York City, Seattle, and St. Louis–are Democrat-run cities where gun control has been the go-to crime solution for decades. And in the face of gun control failures, the leaders in these cities push more gun control as a solution.
Giffords and Kelly have long campaigned for universal background checks, which already exist in California and have proven impotent to stop determined attackers.
