Nancy Pelosi Slams Apple CEO Tim Cook for Paul Ryan Fundraiser

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi had harsh words for Apple, Inc. CEO Tim Cook over his plans to host a fundraiser Tuesday evening for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI).

“Poor Tim. What a nice guy he is, but somebody gave him bad advice,” Pelosi told the San Francisco Chronicle.

She reminded the Chronicle that Silicon Valley is essentially a one-party fiefdom. In an interview with the paper, “Pelosi ticked off a number of issues where, she said, the Republicans in Congress have taken positions at odds with core values in Silicon Valley. They include immigration rights, restrictions on gun ownership, the ability of women to have access to legal abortions, LGBT rights and the reality of climate change.”

Republicans have been critical of the fundraiser for other reasons. Cook pulled Apple out of any role at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next month over some of the views and statements of presumptive nominee Donald Trump.  However, Ryan, who will chair the convention, is still holding his fundraiser with Cook. The impression given is that party leadership is willing to condone attacks on its nominee, chosen by the voters, as long as donors continue to help them personally.

Pelosi said that it was not possible for Republican donors to back individual candidates but avoid association with Trump.

“Trump is a here-today, gone-tomorrow presidential candidate. These people (congressional Republicans) have spent years pursuing their agenda … They don’t believe in science, or gay rights, or a woman’s right to choose. Anything Trump has said, they’ve done worse,” she told the Chronicle.
