Colin Kaepernick, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback who has taken a knee for the national anthem before each game this season, had one of the worst performances in the history of the National Football League Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
Kapernick was sacked five times and threw for a grand total for four yards on one completion (in five attempts) for a rating of 39.6, en route to losing to the 2-9 (now 3-9) Bears at snowy Soldier Field, 26-6. As the Washington Post notes, that made the outspoken Fidel Castro supporter the first quarterback in the history of the NFL to throw for fewer than five yards while being sacked five times.
Together with fellow 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert, Kaepernick led his team to its worst passing performance in over 50 years.

The 49ers never found the end zone, scoring their six points on two field goals in the first half.
The 1-11 49ers have only won one game this season, while the Oakland Raiders — the former losers across the Bay — defeated the Buffalo Bills 38-24 to improve to 10-2 on the season.
There was poetic justice in the 49ers’ loss and Kaepernick’s humiliation. As the City of Chicago website notes:
Soldier Field was named as such at the request of the Gold Star Mothers to honor the men lost in World War I. The Doughboy statue, originally placed in Garfield Park, was restored and installed in Soldier Field as part of the stadium renovation. Doughboy is an informal term for a member of the United States Army of Marine Corps, especially members of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I.
