Twelve dead in US, Canada from storm Sandy

At least 12 people were killed Monday in the United States and Canada as the megastorm Sandy slammed into the US East Coast, tearing down trees and power lines with hurricane-strength gusts.

Local officials in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and North Carolina reported 10 dead, and Toronto police said a Canadian woman was killed by flying debris.
