A property entrepreneur involved in one of Britain’s biggest divorce cases was handed a six-month jail term on Wednesday for failing to provide details of his finances.
Scot Young, 51, whose estranged wife says he was worth £400 million in 2006, was found to be in contempt of court by judge Philip Moor at London’s High Court.
“All I want is justice,” said his wife Michelle Young, 48, with whom he has two daughters. The pair have been involved in a long legal battle.
Scot Young was ordered two years ago to pay her £27,500 a month, but says he is bankrupt and cannot pay.
Lawyers for Michelle Young argued in court that her husband had hidden “enormous assets” since their 2006 separation, and lived a life “consistent with considerable wealth”.
He has been described at previous hearings as a “property tycoon”, while media reports said he had acted as a “fixer” for billionaires including Russian oligarchs.
The financial claims are due to be argued further at a trial scheduled to begin later this year.
The High Court had ordered Young — who is representing himself in court — to provide specific financial details in November, but he indicated in written papers that delays were due to health problems, the judge said at an earlier hearing.
