A man carrying an airgun tried to forcibly enter the central Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday but was overpowered by security guards and is now in police custody, the bank said.
No one was injured in the mid-afternoon incident at the central bank headquarters in the south of the financial hub Mumbai, a spokeswoman for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) told AFP.
“The man who had an airgun tried to forcibly enter the RBI building but he was overpowered by two security guards and handed over to local police,” the spokeswoman said.
No shots were fired and the bank’s operations were unaffected, she said.
It was not known what was behind the man’s actions, she added.
His identity was not known and no other details were immediately available.
