France’s David Casteu, riding a Yamaha, won the fifth motorcycling stage of the Dakar Rally on Wednesday, a 136km timed run between Arequipa in Peru and Arica in Chile.
Compatriot Olivier Pain, was second on the stage, 1min 09sec behind on his Yamaha and retained the overall lead.
Italy’s Alessandro Botturi, on a Husqvarna, was third, 3min 25sec off the pace.
Pain has an overall lead of 1min 15sec on Casteu with defending champion Cyril Despres on a KTM, and who was fourth Wednesday, is third overall, 6min 07sec behind.
