A nine-vehicle pile-up on the M6 in Cheshire has killed one person and injured 10, police said on Monday.
Emergency services were called to the scene near junction 16 of the southbound carriageway at Sandbach after two vans, two HGVs and five cars collided with each other.
“Seven people received minor injuries, three received serious injuries, two of which are life threatening, and sadly one person has died”, a Cheshire Police spokeswoman said.
The casualties were taken to hospital, including two by air ambulance.
The southbound carriageway has been closed between junction 16 and 18 in the wake of the accident.
