Paris Brown will not face charges

Paris Brown, Britain’s first youth police and crime commissioner, will not be prosecuted over the remarks made on her Twitter account which forced her resignation, police said.

Police were investigating Brown, 17, to establish whether the messages posted when she was aged between 14 and 16 were racist and homophobic after more than 50 members of the public complained.

“We have spoken to the CPS about our findings and given them our view that this case does not pass the evidential threshold for prosecution,” said Kent Police in a statement.

“We will make no recommendations to them for charges and will take no further police action having discharged our duty to investigate.”

Brown quit on April 9, just a week after being appointed to the £15,000-a-year role by Kent Police chief Ann Barnes.

On resigning, Brown said: “I strongly reiterate that I’m not a racist and I’m not a homophobic.”

The resignation dealt an embarrassing blow to Barnes, and raised questions about the force’s background checks.
