GM to bring 1,500 jobs to Michigan tech center

General Motors announced plans Monday to open a new information technology center in Michigan which will employ up to 1,500 people.

It is the second of four planned “innovation centers,” including a recently-announced facility in Austin, Texas that will employ 500 people.

“We’re currently seeking the next generation of game-changers to help us usher in a new age of automotive innovation at GM,” chief information officer Randy Mott said in a statement.

The largest US automaker said it is moving to an in-sourced IT model as it works to “improve its performance, drive down the cost of ongoing operations and increase the level of innovation delivered to GM customers.”

GM said it will be visiting college campuses and participating in local job fairs to fill positions including software development, project management, database management and business analysis.
