The US Treasury auctioned $32 billion in three-year notes Tuesday at a high yield of 0.631 percent, with 90.49 percent of the allotment going out at that level.

Demand was slightly lighter than in recent weeks: the bid-to-cover ratio was 3.21, compared to the average of 3.34 in the past six auctions of the same notes.

Direct bidders took up only 14.0 percent of the offer, but indirect bidders, which can include foreign central banks, rose to 41.4 percent.

The next three-year note auction by the Treasury comes on September 10.
