Face in Scottish crowd gets referee call

A spectator stepped out of the shadows to make sure a Scottish Division One match was completed on Saturday after the referee was forced out with an injury.

When referee Kevin Clancy was hurt in a collision with Cowdenbeath boss Colin Cameron during the game at Dunfermline, the game was held up for 30 minutes as a replacement was sought.

It was then a qualified official came forward from among the paying crowd to run the line while a match-day linesman took charge of the game.

The BBC identified the mystery man as 61-year-old security worker Jock Campbell who officiates at Sunday league matches.

Cowdenbeath may have wished Campbell had remained on the terraces as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat.
