LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9 (UPI) — Mariah Carey has signed on to guest star in an upcoming episode of Empire when the hit music drama returns this fall for Season 3.
Announced Monday during the ongoing Television Critics Association press tour, Carey was said to be starring as new character Kitty, a music superstar who collaborates with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on a new song according to Variety.
Carey, who has a history with Empire series creator Lee Daniels, has been rumored to appear on the series in the past. The pop star and filmmaker previously worked together on his films, 2013’s The Butler and 2009’s Precious.
Other guest stars set for Season 3 of Empire include Taye Diggs, Sierra McClain and rappers French Montana and Birdman.
Carey was last on hand at the Television Critics Association press tour to promote her upcoming E! documentary series Mariah’s World, as a new trailer was released that featured the 46-year-old preparing for her wedding to billionaire James Packer and for her European tour.
